چکیده

The Matrix is the latest generation Frequency-Doubling Technology (FDT) perimeter, introduced to the eye care professions in 2003. With seven tests available, visual field testing can proceed from the macula to an eccentricity of thirty degrees. Its ability to detect magnocellular pathway deficiencies has made FDT an excellent tool in the management of glaucoma. The purpose of this article is to discuss FDT, review some of the literature regarding the magnocellular pathway, outline the technical aspects of the Matrix, and to present clinical examples and observations of the use of FDT technology in areas of visual function that are of part icular interest to behavioral optometrists.

Patients with schizophrenia show deficits on spatial frequency doubling

There are pieces of evidence indicating that visual deficits in patients with schizophrenia can be attributed to a deficiency in the magnocellular portion of the early visual system. The main objective of this study was to investigate the neurological dysfunction of the magnocellular pathway in patients with schizophrenia using the frequency doubling technology perimetry (FDT). The FDT has been...

Topography of the frequency doubling perimetry visual field compared with that of short wavelength and achromatic automated perimetry visual fields.

BACKGROUND Traquair described the topography of visual field sensitivity as a "hill" or "island" of vision. Achromatic automated perimetry (AAP) demonstrates this shape of the visual field in photopic conditions. Techniques claimed to target the magnocellular pathway (frequency doubling perimetry, FDP) and those using a stimulus targeting the koniocellular pathway (short wavelength (or blue on ...

Adults with dyslexia show deficits on spatial frequency doubling and visual attention tasks.

We examine the visual processing of high-functioning adults with developmental dyslexia (mean Performance IQ = 126.5) and current phonological problems. In comparison to an age- and IQ-matched control group, the group with dyslexia showed deficits in two tasks associated with magnocellular/dorsal pathway function. For the 'frequency doubling' stimulus (grating of 0.25 cpd modulated at 25 Hz cou...

Steady-state pattern electroretinogram and frequency doubling technology in anisometropic amblyopia

BACKGROUND Steady-state pattern electroretinogram (PERG) and frequency doubling technology (FDT) perimetry can be used to selectively investigate the activity of the M-Y ganglion cells in adult anisometropic amblyopes. METHODS Fifteen normal subjects (mean 27.8±4.1 years) and 15 adults with anisometropic amblyopia (mean 28.7±5.9 years) were analyzed using steady-state PERG and FDT. RESULTS ...

Effect of interaction between acute administration of morphine and cannabinoid compounds on spontaneous excitatory and inhibitory postsynaptic currents of magnocellular neurons of supraoptic nucleus

Objective(s): Opioids and cannabinoids are two important compounds that have been shown to influence the activity of magnocellular neurons (MCNs) of supraoptic nucleus (SON). The interaction between opioidergic and cannabinoidergic systems in various structures of the brain and spinal cord is now well established, but not in the MCNs of SON. Materials and methods: In this study, whole cell pat...
